Why be a member?

The Young People's Opera Society of BC is the only company in Canada creating, developing and performing traditional operas for youth .

Imagine a world where young people are singing happily, where opera is available to those who want sing in this art form and where children don't have to travel for hours or spend a lot of money. In our world, opera is available to youth. Young people are singing arias and choruses with professionals in traditional children's operas and in newly written pieces - some they've even written themselves.

Currently, opera is considered available only to the elite or the initiated, well beyond the reach of everyday people and certainly, most youngsters.
Here is an opportunity to remove that gap, to bring opera back to the communities and to educate future opera stars and aficionados.

Young People’s Opera Society of BC is committed to presenting, writing and teaching opera for youth by youth. We will be presenting a new young people’s opera every year. Young people will be performing and even writing under the auspices of librettists and composers. We intend to keep Opera alive!

To do all this we need partners who are passionate about music and the development and well being of our youth.
